Get to know Peter
Peter works at TransHeroes as a Forwarding Manager Road in Team 3. He focuses on finding suitable transport solutions for customers and particularly enjoys the challenge of responding quickly to urgent shipments and loads with unusual dimensions. His colleagues know him as calm, hardworking and always punctual, but also as a fan of traditional Dutch pirate music. In his free time, Peter likes to stay active: he enjoys walking and cycling, plays klootschieten (a traditional Dutch throwing sport) and performs as a humorous storyteller during carnival. He also enjoys local traditions, holidays in Turkey and spending quality time with his wife, family and neighbours.
What do you enjoy most about your work?
I really enjoy being in contact with customers and carriers, as well as working in a friendly and motivated team. I get a lot of satisfaction from being able to offer a solution for an urgent shipment within just a few minutes and immediately provide a license plate number and loading time. Customers are often surprised by how quickly this can be arranged. I also enjoy finding solutions for loads with unusual dimensions. I like to process as many quotes as possible, as quickly as possible, because I notice that customers appreciate receiving a solution quickly. Of course, I also enjoy the always lively Friday afternoon drinks and our team lunch on Fridays.
How would your colleagues describe you?
Active, always on time and generally not very outspoken. Maybe a bit quiet, but flexible with working hours, someone who stands up for himself and works hard. My colleagues also know by now that I always feel warm and am a fan of Dutch pirate music.
What do you enjoy doing in your free time?
In my free time, I like to stay active. I perform as a buutredner (a humorous storyteller) during carnival gala evenings and have spent many years acting with the local theatre group in Ootmarsum. I also enjoy cycling to work, on an electric bike admittedly, but it's still about 25 kilometres each way. I also enjoy gardening at my own home and at my parents' house, and I go for walks of between 6 and 12 kilometres on average two to three times a week. This year, I completed a 40-kilometre walk for the first time, and I'm planning to do it again in March. I also love going on holiday, especially to Turkey. On my days off, when the weather is nice, my wife and I enjoy going for bike rides, making sure to support the local cafés and restaurants along the way. And of course, Sunday morning klootschieten (a traditional Dutch throwing sport) is also part of my routine.
I also really value local traditions, such as Siepelhangen during carnival and collecting wood on Easter Saturday. These activities always involve plenty of fun, good food and drinks. That probably has something to do with my love of enjoying the good things in life. At home, we live next to a small square with a bench and table surrounding a tree, with enough room for about twelve people. When the weather is nice, we regularly gather there with our neighbours for a friendly little 'meeting'.
What's something people might not know about you?
I regularly help my parents and father-in-law with grocery shopping and gardening. I'm also an active blood donor and lead a group of boys in klootschieten (a traditional Dutch throwing sport).
