Get to know Thomas
Thomas is a Senior Software Architect at TransHeroes and one of the technical minds behind our digital solutions. He focuses on software development, smart systems and everything that keeps our digital environment running smoothly and allows it to continue growing. Outside of work, Thomas can often be found running, regularly wearing his TransHeroes sports shirt. It's actually a great combination: during the day, he works on speed and structure in our software, and after work, he picks up the pace himself while running.
What do you enjoy most about your work?

I've turned my hobby into my job. I love working on complex challenges and getting the best possible results out of them. I do this through coding, but thanks to my background in Graphic IT, I also work on the infrastructure and the front end of applications to ensure that users have the best possible experience within TransPortal.
How would your colleagues describe you?
As an active person. I run up the stairs to the fourth floor every morning and hardly ever take the lift. My colleagues often end up walking upstairs with me. I'm always up for a joke and can take one just as well, but when things get serious, I know how to step up and work together to solve the problem.
What do you enjoy doing in your free time?

Running is my biggest passion: I've completed seven marathons so far, and I'm aiming for the gold Netherlands medal (running a marathon in all 12 provinces). Besides that, you can often find me by the pool watching one of my two children play water polo. I also love exploring the Netherlands with my wife, travelling all over the country and regularly pitching our tent somewhere to enjoy the surroundings a little longer.
What's something people might not know about you?
Despite having type 3c diabetes, I really enjoy spending time in the kitchen. I love preparing a delicious meal in the slow cooker, baking cookies or pancakes, and even when I'm on holiday, I'll happily bake brownies on the Skottelbraai. Sitting still and doing nothing just isn't for me. When I'm not busy doing something, I often have a puzzle book in my hands.
